- Katy Olson & Tere Mann

Katy OlsonKaty Olson

Katy was raised on a dairy farm where she learned the value of hard work and experienced the freedom and independence of working for herself. For the first 10 years of her work life she worked for other organizations as diverse as a film developing company, modeling for art classes and putting up radio towers. Those experiences gave her valuable work experiences and many life skills. Like all entrepreneurs Katy longed to create her own business and put her talents to work for herself and the betterment of society.

After moving to Otter Tail County to pursue the good life, Katy with her husband Ron Roller ran a successful specialty crop farm and floral wholesale business for 10 years. As the floral business became the focus of Katy’s time she began to look for bigger markets and opened The Bramble and The Rose, a retail gift and design business. There she enjoyed 10 years selling items of functional beauty and designing ‘permanent botanicals’ for hotels, retail establishments and individuals. Looking forward to the next ten years, Katy sold the store and moved on to her new career.

Katy knew that the focus of her new career would be in the healing arts helping people to relieve stress and be at ease in their bodies.  Massage therapy appealed to her both as an enthusiastic receiver of massage and from a deep belief in the power of positive touch. With encouragement from her friend and massage therapist, Teri Mann, she went for training at the Esalen Institute in California and launched a rewarding career in body work. Esalen style massage draws from both Swedish massage and sensory awareness ( a method of teaching people to get in touch with their bodies.) This style of massage is characterized by long sweeping strokes punctuated by deep specific work, passive joint movement, and personal connection. It has proved to be a perfect fit for Katy; she is known for her love of people and her healing touch.

Katy has practiced yoga for 25 years and loved the transformative nature of yoga. For the last ten years Katy has been teaching people how to overcome physical limitations and gain mental clarity. She is currently certified at the Teacher in Training level in the Iyengar system of yoga. She travels monthly to study with her teachers in Minneapolis. The Iyengar system is known for its precision of alignment, sequential approach to learning asana (postures) and integration of the yogic philosophy into the practice of yoga.   Katy loves the creativity and challenge of her present career and the joy of giving pain relief, relaxation and joy to her clients. True to form Katy is always looking forward to the next evolution of her work life. Combining her love of good food, deep study of nutrition and desire for healthy living, helping clients reconnect with good nutrition was the logical next step. Currently Katy is partnering with Dr Kristie Huges, ND of the Dynamic Healing Center of Alexandria, MN to provide First Line Therapy nutritional counseling and lifestyle coaching at the Body Mind Center.

Teresa (Tere) Mann

Tere became a massage therapist in 1986 and started practicing in Fergus Falls in early 1987.  She learned a variety of massage modalities over the course of her practice including Esalen, Swedish, Neuro-Muscular Therapy, and Lymph Drainage Therapy.  Tere left Fergus Falls in 2005 for Boulder CO to get a Master's Degree in Enviromental Leadership.  She returned to Fergus Falls in the Spring of 2013 and returned to her massage practice in October of 2013.  Returning to the lush green world of MN warms her heart even in the snowy cold winter. She is very happy to be closer to her two grand-daughters who live in Mpls.  Working with her long time friend and associate Katy Olson pleases her and she looks forward to working not only in massage but also working to make the world a more sustainable place to live.
